I am currently using a new Linux distribution, OzOS, a beautiful, very lightweight operating system built upon Xubuntu with the glitzy e17 for desktop management. I have been using it on my macbook pro 3.1 now for under a week, but fully enjoy this switch from gnome-heavy Ubunutu. This would be a great upgrade for anyone wanting to make an older machine run like new and look stunning, or have a new machine use its resources on more useful endeavors. Extremely customizable, this OS comes installed with the bare necessities allowing the user to add what he/she wants. Because e17 is technically still in beta testing the support is very good with the actually creators and architects responding to any issues within a few hours of a forum post, standard Linux support.
In the image above you can see a terminal and theme version window open. Below this you can see your standard start/toolbar menu except here accessed by a left mouse click anywhere on your desktop, right click brings up your favorite programs. No need for toolbars etc. If you minimize a program a light, small semi transparent icon shows up at the bottom (in image firefox icon at bottom). At the top you see glossy windows displaying your virtual desktops. This allows for simple desktop and window maneuvering and managing. An uncluttered minimalistic approach to desktops. I will add a much nicer wallpaper and cooler theme to show you how beautiful this distribution can look.

Aside: It has now been over a year since I made my first switch from microsoft based machines to apple and osx which was one of the best computing decisions of my life, then I got rid of osx and fully entered the open source world of Linux in the beginning of the summer, even better. Join, your computer will thank you! I will post installation on macbook pro 3.1 in the future.
